I put this together to illustrate some points about Claude Debussy’s last prelude from book II, Feux d’artifice. The end of the video has an appeal for employment in the Netherlands:) I am working on a Scriabin project in Switzerland and getting snow footage for “Footsteps in the Snow” for the Debussy documentary.

I was inspired by Debussy’s Sunken Cathedral to create a video with some of the documentary footage:

I am excited to do more editing on the documentary. So far feedback has been positive and helpful. I will have longer piano segments and blend and overlap them more with the interviews. I also will record more piano works to match the pieces mentioned in the interviews. I can’t wait to meet with Austin Symphony Conductor Peter Bay on December 1st. In the meantime I will be in Switzerland filming shots for a later project on Scriabin’s 2nd Piano Sonata.

This is a sample of footage and sequences which may appear in my documentary about the French Impressionist composer Claude Debussy.
See http://www.debussypiano.com for more information.
It has some of the interviews, scenes, people, and piano works that will appear in the final film. But it is a rough cut that may change completely. Debussy scholars Marie Rolf, Richard Langham-Smith, Row Howat, and Stewart Gordon appear, and pianist Anthony Tobin
http://www.anthonytobin.net plays the piano music.
Scenes are places that were relevant during Debussy’s life with the exception of “Footprints in the Snow, which is temporary footage.
I am interested in constructive criticism, positive or negative. What works, what does not, what would you like to see included?
This is only a beginning, I plan to do my own demonstration and analysis and Peter Bay, Conductor of the Austin Symphony, will discuss La Mer.
So far I have had better luck with blip.tv:

Jerry Chen did very well with the 1st mvt. of Mozart’s K488 A-Major Concerto in the ASO Youth auditions. I was pleased to play for him and see Peter Bay once again. Although I have decided the ASO is prohibitively expensive and the rights impossible to deal with Peter Bay is interested in discussing Debussy’s La Mer in my Debussy Documentary. I am very pleased. He and I will meet once again to discuss his contribution to the project.
In the meantime I prepare for my trip to Switzerland, where I plan to video and capture footage for a future Scriabin project.
